Tandis is an independent art magazine has been publishing in Iran since 1998. To celebrate Issue 100, the magazine issued a competition to submit a design for the cover. The brief was for each participant to submit two unique design, for while I was grateful to have won both the first and second prize.

This design received second place. Here I have focused on the professionalism of the articles, criticism, art news and refrained from being fanciful. As an independent journal, Tandis receives no governmental subsidy, therefore it is printed on simple 80 g uncoated paper. Cedar is a significant tree in Persian culture, being the symbol of largess and stability as it is evergreen tree and straight standing even in winters. I have illustrated the cedar using 20 hands and 100 fingers, again to celebrate Issue 100.
My design was ultimately chosen for the 100th Issue’s cover. As Tandis is an independent magazine, it was surprising to me that it had reached to issue 100 and it was not shut down by Iran Islamic publication ministry. To appreciate this achievement, I left the cover all in white that signified silence. A white sheet as a moment of silence.
